New Look 6974, view C, size 1/2
This is slightly altered to accommodate the overlay, this time though, I followed the pattern for the yokes and straps and didn’t have a messy inside to contend with.
The ties are slightly lengthened, they were too short on the last version and could possibly be a little longer still.
Simplicity 3588, view B, the size is a blend of 3 and 5, I tried for torso length, skirt length and sleeve of 5 and the width of 3. Possibly the sleeves are extra big because of this, but the fit ended up being great despite the Frankenstein meddling.
The zipper was a short 7” one because it matched perfectly and the longer ones did not even come close. I have done this many times but she’s gotten tall enough that this almost didn’t work and it’s a bit of a shimmy to get her into the dress.
Also this was my first time using piping and I made the piping myself to get the colour I wanted. I see more piping in my future, it’s easy enough to do and I think makes a great accent.
Oliver + S, sketchbook shirt view A. This is a size 3 with the 18/24 month width. I think that the width adjustment added a little more pouf to the shoulder then I would like, but the pattern of the fabric hides it pretty well, next time I’ll pinch a little out.
I had my doubts about my ability to pull this off, but the pattern is written beautifully and it came together easily and much faster then I thought it would.
Can’t wait to try another Oliver + S pattern
New Look, view A, size 3 with 4” added to the length of skirt pieces.
This was altered so I could use and see both fabrics, but I did it pretty shabbily, and ended up with a messy inside that is fairly scratchy. Luckily the wearer of the dress is happy to put up with some pain for a sparkly dress and this has been worn several times.
(The grey bias tape was an attempt at cleaning up the arms and making them more comfortable, and was the only not too clashing colour I had on hand that night, the dress being needed the next day…)
New Look 6881 size 1/2 with self drafted collar added, as well as sash, with buttons and loops substituted for zipper.
